We stayed at the Martineau for three nights and would thoroughly recommend this B & B and Tynemouth for a short break. The Martineau is a great find and the rooms are clean, tastefully furnished with a well cooked and hearty breakfast. Good restaurants within a few minutes walk and the Metro takes you into Newcastle in 20 minutes. Chris, Roger and Eva made us very welcome.

Recently visited Tynemouth and North Shields with my cousin while re-tracing our family roots and can only say that we were struck by the friendliness of everyone in the area. The Martinaeu Guest House located on Tynemouth's Front Street was a perfect location for us to stay the four nights. Top marks to owners Chris & Roger for cleanliness and excellent breakfasts. The rooms on the top floor were both comfortable and provided excellent views over the estuary of the Tyne. Suited best to mature clientele we would certainly recommend to anyone else.

My wife and I just returned from a last minute stay in Newcastle, (Tynemouth) and stayed at the Martineau Guest House. We were there 3 nights. The B&B location is in a great location, very clean, and a great breakfast, with wonderful hosts. We stayed in the Priory View room at the top of the Guest House, this room has a great view of the coast. Locally, there several places to eat and shop, within feet of the guest house. Don't miss The Fish and Chip shop across the street. There are also several Pub's and the Metro within 2 blocks. We had several travel plan changes, and booked on short notice and had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend.

Martineau House is named after Harriet Martineau, acclaimed novelist, political economist and England's first female journalists, who convalesced here between 1840/1845.
